Prince was 'major drug addict for 25 years and couldn't perform without pills'

PRINCE'S former drug dealer has revealed the shocking extent of the star's dependency of drugs.

GETTYHOOKED: Prince allegedly couldn't get on stage without drugs

Doctor D, the self-titled "dealer to the stars," claimed that Prince would spend up to $40,000 per transaction to stock up on Dilaudid pills and Fentanyl patches, both highly addictive pain killers, so that he was supplied for six months at a time.

Prince allegedly bought drugs from Doctor D between 1984 and 2008, in part because he had a major phobia of doctors so could not obtain the pills legally.

Doctor D said that Prince needed the pills to cope with his crippling stage fright and couldn't get on stage without them.

WENNBLOWOUTS: Prince would spend up to $40,000 on each deal

"I first met Prince in 1984 while he was filming the movie Purple Rain and he was already majorly addicted to opiates – I didn't hook him on drugs, he was already a really heavy user," he explained.

"He needed the drugs because he was so nervous – he could be nervous in a room with just five people in it… he was doing these drugs so he could feel at ease around people.

"He was scared to go out in public, he was scared to talk to people and didn't like to go on stage – he had the worst case of stage fright I'd ever seen," he continued to Mail Online.

"Plus he was always paranoid about doctors so he wouldn't ask them for help – he had a phobia of them… But doctors would have freaked out if they knew the extent of Prince's drug problem and wouldn't know what to do."

Doctor D added that Price never smoked, injected or snorted his drugs, which is why the habit went undetected for so long

He also said that Prince tried to convert him to his religious sect of Jehova's Witnesses during transactions.

WENN'HILLBILLY HEROIN': The same drug was found in MJ, Heath Ledger and Philip Seymour Hoffman

Earlier this week sources claimed that Prince overdosed on 'hillbilly heroin', or Perecocet, the same drug found in the bodies of Michael Jackson, Heath Ledger and Philip Seymour Hoffman.

Widely sold illegally, the drug contains oxycodone, which provides a high addicts have compared to that of morphine.

In high quantities, medics have warned that it can stop a person breathing.
